Welcome to Talbot Commons

Our “pocket hotel” (just another word for small—we only have 11 rooms) is located in historic downtown Taylor, Texas, and a short walk or bike ride to stores and restaurants, including Old Taylor High – Taylor’s repurposed 1922-built high school, which has been turned into a charming collection of businesses including a tap room, a cocktail bar, restaurants, an arcade, dessert shops, a yoga studio, and other retailers!

The name Talbot Commons recognizes the property’s location on Talbot Street and the concept of a common space for people to gather, connect, and have fun.

Small Scale, Big Impact

Talbot Commons Pocket Hotel is one part of a small-scale, mixed-use development transforming the site of the old First Presbyterian Church. The site consisted of two buildings: the original church, built in 1912, and the Sunday school and fellowship hall building, built in 1955.

A group of investors from the broader Taylor area began the transformation with the hotel and coffee kiosk (operated by Haciendo Coffee Roasters).

Future phases will include transformation of 607 North Main (originally a boarding house) into additional guest rooms for Talbot Commons Pocket Hotel, restoration of the church, and construction of a 17-unit courtyard apartment building with a corner retail store on the north end of the block.

Hotel Amenities include:
• Free street parking
• Contactless check-in
• Complimentary WiFi
• Outdoor seating area
• EV charging ports
• Pet-friendly (select rooms)

Taylor-ed Interiors

The guest rooms’ interiors are the brainchild of one of the founding investors, Douglas Moss, and his niece, Amanda Rienth. Native Taylorites, Douglas and Amanda are both principals of the international design firm Steinberg Hart, where Douglas leads the firm’s Austin office and Amanda leads interior design for the firm.

About the Artist

B. Shawn Cox

The wallpaper above the headboard in each room was created by Austin-based artist B. Shawn Cox. An incredibly talented artist, he is a friend and former Texas Tech College of Architecture classmate of two of the founding investors of Talbot Commons.

Historic Postcard Images

The vintage images of historic downtown Taylor are enlargements of postcards collected by local Taylor attorney Pat Quinn. These images capture the city in the early 1900s, when Taylor was the bustling and busiest community in Williamson County.
